| If you can't stand using machines, weights, or any
other equipment to work out. It's just so....I don't know...kind of
unappealing to me, I guess. But I love jogging! I love to feel the
wind in my face, and run along next to a rushing river nearby. I
like to know that my legs hurt and to have to think of one of my
favorite songs to get me going faster. It's one of those few methods
of getting exercise where I can take my frustrations out for that
day. Of course, you can't just start out running 5 miles at once. You have to start slow and do a little bit more every other day. Right now, I can jog for 3 1/2 miles if I take 2-3 breaks (a break is when you walk, rather than jogging, to keep your heart rate going). When I used to live in Colorado and I was consistently jogging 3 times weekly, my normal jogs were about 3 miles with no breaks. Jogging 2-3 times a week is a good goal to set. Mark your calendar or write yourself notes so you allow yourself to have time in your schedule to work out. When you first start out, you should go slow and try to jog for 15 minutes straight without stopping. You might want to warm up a bit with a few situps and stretches if you haven't exercised in a while. After your first week of jogging, you should try to go an extra 5-10 minutes, or a certain marked distance such as 1/2 mile or so. During the third week, increase your pace and go a full mile. Once you have reached your goal of how far/how long you'd like to be able to jog, consistently go that distance every time you go jogging. Jogging is hard - especially if you don't like doing it, but it gets easier every time! Just be sure that you find a safe place to jog and carry a water bottle & Walkman/small radio. It's important to stay hydrated and motivated at the same time. If your favorite music doesn't motivate you, think about all the things that made you mad or happy that day, and take your frustrations out on the road. :-) Drink lots of water while during your breaks, and make sure you drink a big glass after jogging. If you drink water before, it will "slosh" around in your belly and make you feel sick. |
